Robin LucyA manager of expectations
Robin Lucy spent 25 years working in technology before the industry turned from dotcom to dotbomb.
He reinvented himself in sales. With just a few years as a Realtor, he's soaring again.
"This is becoming my best year yet," says Lucy, who works the residential market throughout the Denver metro-area.
Prior to real estate, Lucy worked as a software executive and as manager of Internet companies. His honed leadership skills -- including a keen ability to assess needs and deliver on expectations -- now serve him well in an entirely different industry.
The secret to a successful career switch? "It's all about managing people's expectations," he says.
He was appointed to the JCAR Board of Directors in January. His term runs to October 2007; he plans to run for a continued seat. He currently serves on the Government Affairs Committee.
Born in New Hampshire, Lucy lived in Vermont prior to moving to Colorado in 1996.
As a broker associate with Real Estate of the Rockies, Lucy sets himself apart by utilizing the technology practices and innovative marketing ideas that helped form his earlier career.
For example, in a flooded housing market, he relies on comprehensive virtual tours to "set a listing apart from the others."
Touting his "above and beyond listing service," Lucy is experimenting with new technology, such as web-based contracts. The technology allows clients to sign contracts online and in a quick and efficient manner. It's a great way to get in first place position for desirable properties, and ideal for clients who travel or live at a distance.
Lucy also offers clients the use of company trucks to assist with moves. When not in use, the vehicles serve as visible advertisement.
He also utilizes staging experts to offer advice on simple and low-cost ways to make a seller's home shine.
"This really increases sales impact," explains Lucy. "Getting rid of all the clutter gives the home a warm and cozy feeling that helps a buyer picture their furniture and things."
In addition, he pays for home inspections, and works with one inspector he knows and trusts. "It puts me in a better negotiating position because I really know the property," he explains. "My motto is that 'There's only one way to do things: the right way.' "
Lucy lives in south Lakewood, and was formerly president of the Lakewood Rotary Club. He and his wife enjoy travel, most notably hiking in Scotland and scuba diving in Hawaii. The couple also golf and ski, and are enjoying the arrival of their new, and first, grandchild.
